NHL roundup: Bruins make history with OT win

David Pastrnak’s one-timer on the power play at 3:19 of overtime propelled the Boston Bruins to a 3-2 win over the visiting Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday afternoon.

Boston set an NHL record for the longest season-opening home winning streak (12-0-0), eclipsing the 11-0-0 mark set by the Chicago Blackhawks in 1963-64 and matched by the Florida Panthers last season.

Pastrnak’s game-winner helped the Bruins complete their climb out of a 2-0 hole. David Krejci scored both Boston goals in regulation while Pavel Zacha dished out two assists. Bruins goalie Linus Ullmark (28 saves) left with an upper-body injury in the third period, and Jeremy Swayman stopped all six shots he faced to win in relief.

Stefan Noesen and Jesperi Kotkaniemi scored power-play goals for Carolina, which has lost five straight. Pyotr Kochetkov made a season-high 38 saves.

Penguins 4, Flyers 1

Ryan Poehling scored twice as visiting Pittsburgh swatted reeling Philadelphia for its fifth straight win.

Josh Archibald added a goal and an assist, Sidney Crosby also scored and Teddy Blueger had three assists for the Penguins. Pittsburgh goaltender Tristan Jarry made 29 saves for his fourth win in as many starts.

Kevin Hayes scored the lone goal for the Flyers, who started 7-3-2 but have lost nine straight (0-6-3) and have not won since Nov. 8.

Devils 3, Sabres 1

Jack Hughes, Jesper Boqvist and Tomas Tatar scored second-period goals to give New Jersey all it needed in a victory over host Buffalo.

Akira Schmid made 33 saves for the Devils, who were coming off a 2-1 loss to the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday that ended their franchise record-tying, 13-game winning streak.

Victor Olofsson scored and Craig Anderson made 41 saves for Buffalo, which ended a two-game winning streak with its ninth loss in the past 11 games.

Canadiens 3, Blackhawks 2 (SO)

Kirby Dach, whom Chicago traded to Montreal in July, scored in the third round of the shootout to lift visiting the Canadiens over his former team.

Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki also scored during the shootout for the Canadiens. Jonathan Toews and Andreas Athanasiou scored in the shootout for the Blackhawks, but Patrick Kane was stopped on his second-round try by Sam Montembeault (30 saves).

Suzuki and Joel Edmundson each scored and Sean Monahan had two assists for Montreal. Caleb Jones and Taylor Raddysh scored and Arvid Soderblom made 21 saves for Chicago, which lost its sixth straight.

Kraken 4, Golden Knights 2

Andre Burakovsky scored twice as streaking Seattle earned a victory in Las Vegas.

Ryan Donato and Jordan Eberle also tallied and Adam Larsson had two assists for the Kraken, who won their fourth consecutive game and improved to 9-1-1 in their past 11. Philipp Grubauer, making his first appearance since sustaining a lower-body injury Oct. 21, made 20 saves.

Nicolas Roy and Phil Kessel scored and Shea Theodore had two assists for the Golden Knights, who had a four-game point streak (3-0-1) snapped. Adin Hill stopped 24 of 28 shots.

Lightning 5, Blues 2

Brayden Point scored twice in the first period and added an assist as Tampa Bay tallied three times in just over eight minutes en route to beating red-hot St. Louis.

Alex Killorn, Nicholas Paul and Brandon Hagel each scored and added an assist for the Lightning. Nikita Kucherov dished out three helpers. Steven Stamkos added two assists, extending his season-best point streak to six games, and Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 25 of 27 shots.

Pavel Buchnevich and Jordan Kyrou each had a goal and an assist, and Robert Thomas had two assists for St. Louis. Jordan Binnington allowed four markers on 26 shots as the Blues lost for just the second time in nine games (7-2-0).

Capitals 3, Flames 0

Alex Ovechkin scored his 791st career goal during a power play with 7:36 remaining in the third period and added an assist as host Washington beat Calgary.

T.J. Oshie scored in the opening period and set up a highlight-reel goal by Evgeny Kuznetsov late in the second. Darcy Kuemper made 15 of his 32 saves in the opening period to help the Capitals win consecutive games for the first time since Oct. 22-24.

Flames goalie Jacob Markstrom made 22 saves to drop to 1-8-1 in his career against Washington.

Maple Leafs 4, Wild 3

Calle Jarnkrok scored the go-ahead goal in the second period and visiting Toronto held on for the win in Saint Paul, Minn.

Mitchell Marner scored for Toronto to extend his points streak to 15 games. Zach Aston-Reese and William Nylander added goals for the Maple Leafs, who have won the first two games of a four-game road trip. Matt Murray made 25 saves, including a superb stop in the final seconds.

Kirill Kaprizov and Mats Zuccarello each had a goal and an assist for Minnesota. Matt Boldy also scored and Alex Goligoski added two assists. Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 24 shots.

Senators 5, Ducks 1

Mathieu Joseph and Derick Brassard each produced a goal and two assists as Ottawa won for the first time on its four-game road trip, beating Anaheim.

Brady Tkachuk, Tim Stutzle and Artem Zub each turned in markers. Drake Batherson had two helpers as the Senators won for the third time in their past 14 games (3-10-1) and first in three games out West (1-2-0).

Max Jones scored a late goal for Anaheim, and netminder Anthony Stolarz made 28 saves as the Ducks had their four-game winning streak against the Senators end.

Jets 5, Stars 4 (OT)

Josh Morrissey scored 34 seconds into overtime to lead Winnipeg to a wild road win over Dallas.

Adam Lowry had a goal and an assist for the Jets, while Blake Wheeler and Dylan DeMelo each had two assists. Jansen Harkins, Kyle Connor and Cole Perfetti also scored, and Connor Hellebuyck stopped 37 shots.

Jason Robertson had two goals (both in the last 2:12 to tie the game) and an assist for the Stars, and Jamie Benn collected a goal and an assist. Tyler Seguin and Miro Heiskanen each had two assists, Wyatt Johnston scored a goal, and Jake Oettinger made 23 saves.

Islanders 3, Blue Jackets 2

Brock Nelson scored the go-ahead goal at 6:10 of the third period to propel New York past host Columbus for its third straight win.

Oliver Wahlstrom and Jean-Gabriel Pageau each scored a goal and Ilya Sorokin made 24 saves for the Islanders, who have won five straight against the Blue Jackets dating back to last season. Mathew Barzal notched two assists to extend his point streak to seven games.

Columbus’ Kent Johnson set up Yegor Chinakhov’s power-play goal before scoring one of his own 33 seconds later in the second period. Johnny Gaudreau added two assists and Joonas Korpisalo turned aside 21 shots for the Blue Jackets.

Kings 5, Sharks 2

Jonathan Quick made 29 saves and Viktor Arvidsson and Jaret Anderson-Dolan each had a goal and an assist to lead Los Angeles to a victory at San Jose.

Phillip Danault, Rasmus Kupari and Anze Kopitar also scored for the Kings, who snapped a season-high, three-game losing streak. Sean Durzi added two assists.

Kevin Labanc and Alexander Barabanov scored goals for the Sharks, who lost for the fourth time in five games. James Reimer finished with 24 saves for San Jose, which is just 2-8-3 at home this season.

Red Wings 4, Coyotes 3 (SO)

Dylan Larkin scored in the third round of a shootout to lead Detroit to a home win over Arizona.

The Red Wings won their fourth straight game. The Coyotes, who failed to score on all three of their shots in the shootout, have lost five of six (1-3-2). Arizona forced overtime when Jakob Chychrun scored with 25.4 seconds remaining.

Andrew Copp, Filip Hronek and Jordan Oesterle scored for Detroit. Lucas Raymond added two assists, and Ville Husso made 21 saves. Chychrun and Nick Schmaltz each had a goal and an assist for the Coyotes. J.J. Moser also scored, and Karel Vejmelka stopped 33 shots.
