UNDP, Anambra government tapping innovation & youth space

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the state government of Anambra are joining forces to drive innovation and youth empowerment, with a focus on accelerating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Elsie Attafuah, the Resident Representative for Nigeria at UNDP, emphasized the agency's commitment to supporting Anambra's development agenda during the Anambra Investment Summit. Governor Soludu and his team were lauded for their leadership, with Attafuah highlighting the state's strategic position for investment opportunities in agriculture, tourism, and youth innovation. UNDP's collaboration with the Anambra government aims to enhance development imperatives and address the challenges posed by dwindling development finance. One of the key initiatives includes the establishment of an innovative space called the maker space, designed to foster creativity, collaboration, and prototyping among young innovators. This state-of-the-art facility will feature advanced equipment like CNC machines to facilitate hands-on learning and product development. Additionally, the partnership will explore renewable energy solutions to address power deficiencies, aligning with Nigeria's new electricity act that empowers states to generate their electricity and enhance socio-economic functions. The focus on commerce and regional value chains is another key aspect of the collaboration, leveraging the opportunities presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area agreement. Anambra's participation in regional trade networks, particularly within the southern and northern sectors of Nigeria, is poised to bolster the state's manufacturing capabilities and enhance its economic competitiveness. By fostering public-private partnerships and creating an enabling environment for investment, the Anambra government is signaling its readiness for business and commitment to fostering sustainable development. The summit serves as a platform to showcase the state's developmental aspirations and attract impact-driven investors who prioritize social, economic, and environmental outcomes.
