South Africa's jobless rate rises amid rolling blackouts

South Africa's unemployment rate remains one of the highest in the world. 258,000 people gained employment in the first quarter, 179,000 lost jobs. This squared to a slight drop in the official unemployment rate to 32.9 per cent. But the expanded definition, which includes people who have given up work, rose.
